  • Classical Bangladeshi instrumentation meets jungle.

  • Enayet—cofounder of New York collective SLINK—and Provhat of London crew Daytimers have teamed up on a record that honours music from Bangladesh. The EP, co-composed with Dhaka-based sitar player Nishit Dey, features a group of Bangladeshi artists playing traditional instruments such as the tabla, dhol and bansuri with influences from revolutionary Bangladesh songs known as Nazrul Sangeet, plus the Asian Underground movement and classical raags. The gorgeous title track goes heavy on poignant melodies and vocals sung in Bangla, with touches of atmospheric jungle that fellow SLINK member rrao intensifies on their remix. Condensing Enayet and Provhat's 14-minute original into a four-minute club weapon, rrao deftly splices up the tabla and dhol (two kinds of South Asian drums), adding in extra loops and sinister synth lines into a deadly halftime arrangement. This is a weightless, dubby gem that's sure to wreak havoc on a proper sound system.
