PVAS - Somaesthesia

  • A claustrophobic hotbox filled with jungle breaks and dubstep wobble.

  • Plenty of tracks that trade in bass womps tend to conjure up images of weed, but I don't think I've ever heard someone take that as literally as PVAS. On the title track for his newest EP for Montreal label, ISLA, Somaesthesia, he starts with the flicker of a lighter and long inhales. Slowly the stereo field is consumed by spider-like synths, paranoid voices and sub-bass pulses. The lighter motif remains as the song seems to exhale alternate rhythm—jungle breaks here, half-time dubstep there. It's a dense and smoky track, with only the dreamy chords letting some much needed air in… for just a moment.
