I. JORDAN, SHERELLE - M1, M3 / GETOUTOFMYHEAD

  • A UK team-up of epic (and speedy) proportions.

  • It was a conversation in the green room of Homobloc 2021 that made SHERELLE approach I. JORDAN to say: "I need to play more parties where the crowd reflects me." The fleeting interaction catalysed the duo's Reflections tour, where they played back-to-back in a number of queer and trans-inclusive spaces that they felt reflected their own identities. On this new split single released for fabric Originals, the pair find success recognizing both their individuality and their overlap. It's fitting that the EP cover resembles some sort of organism mid-symbiosis: "I think it's just the start of a natural bond, working relationship, masc-on-masc energy," SHERELLE told Mixmag. Gliding at 160 BPM and adorned with the vibrant flourishes you'd expect from an I. JORDAN cut, SHERELLE's "GETOUTOFMYHEAD" sounds like internal chaos blossoming into unadulterated summery bliss. Initially an unfinished melody that haunted them for a year, it wasn't until a back-to-back with Tim Reaper—and hearing it alongside I. JORDAN'S "M1/M3"—that "GETOUTOFMYHEAD" began to take the imposing shape it has now. Thundering kicks and hissing cymbals steer the introduction, only for luminous synth pads and echoing yelps to emerge, guiding the listener towards transcendence. Piano stabs bring a combative edge that shouldn't work with the track's ethereal grow, but the juxtaposition suits it. In the same Mixmag interview, SHERELLE described the track as a "...reflection of sleepless nights and touring. But also how easy it is to get lost in the spiral of raving." I. JORDAN's "M1, M3" is a salute to Manchester conceived on the train home after some inspiring gigs. From the word go, there's a ton of pressurised energy in the track's siren-like melody, which approaches supernova levels at multiple points. The opening and closing of the filter feels like motorway traffic breezing by on a late-night drive. Both artists are on their A-games here, yet it still feels effortless. With the duo vowing to make more music together, the release represents the dawn of one of the UK club scene's most pace-making link-ups, and so far, it feels unfairly overpowered.
