Frog Of Earth - Heard Upwards

  • The return of electronic music's favorite amphibian.

  • Dublin's Mel Keane's debut as Frog Of Earth was a masterpiece of strange textures and bubbling melodies, ranging from dub techno to neo-classical. The record staged a coup of online radio stations worldwide—for a while it felt like every self-described "experimental" show from NTS to Dublab was bound to rinse at least one track of "intelligent frog music." Radio DJs take note: your favorite amphibian is back. Appearing as a one-off for Mexican Summer, "Heard Upwards," picks up where Frog Of Earth left off. Medieval organs, field recordings, strings and the occasional gong all skitter like mosquitos around a central synth guitar. What's different is how much more high-definition the track sounds. If Frog Of Earth was a murky pond at dusk, "Heard Upwards" is a crisp sunrise on the bayou.
