Lake Haze - Galactic Federation

  • Emotive, powerful, retro dance music that pays tribute to '90s Portugal and beyond.

  • "Artistically, my connection with Portugal is almost non-existent," said Gonçalo Salgado, AKA Lake Haze, in an interview back in 2018, after he'd left Lisbon and moved to The Hague. He mentions how there wasn't much of a scene that celebrated the sort of music he was making. But Paraíso—a Lisbon label started in 2016 that "aims to rekindle the original flame of Portuguese dance music from the '90s"—has grown into a worthy outlet for his style of house and techno, with touches of old-school electro and acid. Salgado's debut EP for the label embraces Paraíso's rave nostalgia, enveloping a crisp, retro-sounding drum pattern in an emotive duo of far-off scaling pads and long, growling acid lines. It's an epic return to Portuguese soil that shines with the twinkling euphoria of Omar S's "Here's Your Trance Now Dance," the gloomy mystique of Elecktroids' "Mystery World" and the intensity of Legowelt's "The Sea Is So Silent," all in one.
