Molotof - Omara

  • Mahraganat-inspired psychedelic techno.

  • Cairo producer Molotof has long dabbled in mahraganat, a style of fast-paced dance music that blends Egyptian folk melodies with big basslines. He even has his own genre, molowave, where the popular genre collides with acid, house and rap. For his debut solo album, however, the artist formerly known as Hadayek 303 chose a different approach. Pairing mahraganat's synth lines and drums with distorted basslines and melodic techno elements, the LP shows off Molotof's more adventurous side while continuing to fine-tune his mahraganat experimentations. "Omara" is a trance-inducing number with distorted low-ends and an atmospheric glaze. Brooding and delicate, its swirling synths, 8-bit drums and textural noises are as transportive as they are lush. Minimal and cocooning, this one should resonate among fans of Aurora Halal and Wata Igarashi.
