  • The late drag legend Moi Renee is having a moment. "Miss Honey," a call-out track released on iconic garage house label Project X, was recently sampled by none other than Beyoncé on "PURE/HONEY" (and Omar-S on his most recent album). But, as Kiana Mickles put it in their review of Renaissance, the result fell kind of flat. Newcomer Kolya's take on "Miss Honey" is anything but, as the London producer pays proper homage to the original. And like its progenitor, the drum programming on "Miss Honey Prancin' In The Twilite" is sparse and the vocal is the main event. Kolya X's major update is the alternating melodies of second-wave Detroit chords and a wiggly candy floss synth line underneath. Add the "Bitch knew I'll be back" breakdown and you could argue this is more like the queer anthem Beyonce was hoping to write.
