  • The latest release on Bogotá label Discos Paramo, from Julian Gómez, doesn't really come with any info. (It doesn't even have real track titles.) But all you need to know here is that you're getting acid, served three ways, each slice at a perfect medium rare. Armed with nothing more than what sounds like a vintage drum machine, 303 and rudimentary synth (or the software equivalents), Gómez wrings out some wonderful results. I'm partial to "T2," which pairs its sinuous acid line with dreamy, stargazing synths that remind me of Autechre's first album Incunabula, when they were still making something that resembled dance music. "T3" features airy chord stabs that add a hint of '90s Chicago to the '80s backbone—smooth, soulful and just slightly jazzy—while "T1" is the inevitable Phuture-style workout. It transcends any feeling of pastiche with a loose and limber rhythm and tendrils of melody that float up like helium balloons. Full of personality, T3 is exactly what you want if you're looking for old-school acid with a hint of the new.
