- RAFRAM, the new group from Toronto producer Raf Reza and UK acid house veteran Ramjac Corporation (AKA Paul Chivers), get neck-deep in eerie club music on their debut EP. Combining Drexciya's raw, machine-driven sound with spacey techno that brings to mind early Roza Terenzi, the "Rotten Mix" is the most DJ-friendly offering, though it's still rife with eccentricities. A spooky melody, repeated across the 12-inch, peeks out through layers of steppy percussion, trippy synths, trancey textures and various dissonant noises, emanating an air of nervous excitement. It's a weird and wonderful record that balances lighthearted fun with creepy FX and a sense of the unexpected.
