  • Remco Hazewinkel is a low-key key figure in the current wave of Dutch producers releasing highly emotive dance music. Under the name Eversines, he's put out records for respected imprints like Nous'klaer Audio, Kalahari Oyster Cult, Lonely Planet Recs and De Lichting. Following his dynamic Solvation EP, Hazewinkel keeps his feet in the club and head above the clouds on his latest record, Achterna. Released through Job Jobse's De Vlieger imprint—dedicated fans of his might even recognize these tunes from recent DJ sets—the EP is a delicate brew of techno and dreamy house with slowed-down breakbeats galore. An oddly satisfying, drifting vocal sample ("Play it honey"), half-time breaks and a bittersweet melody on the title track immediately brings to mind the balance between warm and eerie that Traumprinz displays on his spiritual rave mixtapes. Eris Drew steps in to give the cut a tight remix on the flipside, fattening up the rhythm section, adding more breaks and a well-deployed klaxon or two. The end result is a pitch-perfect DJ tool. The star of the EP, though, is "Uitzicht," which dials in an epic synth melody and even more robust breakbeats. It's a blissed-out, summery journey with a driving Balearic quality that carries a lingering feeling of yearning and borrowed nostalgia—only underlined by the windswept Buddha Bar mood of "Eens." On Achterna, it sounds like Eversines is chasing the sun through a long, melancholy sunset. His emotional approach to dance music places him among the most intriguing producers in Holland today.
