- With each release, New York producer Malik Hendricks fine-tunes his signature style of soulful house. The genre can sometimes feel formulaic but Hendricks, a Coloring Lessons affiliate, always manages to inject the right amount of bounce for a fresh feeling. This cut features saxophonist Ben Chapoteau Katz and twinkling, almost lightweight, melodies balanced with stuttering drums. There's a poignancy throughout the track, even during a cascade of claps and shimmering vocals, that speaks to the artist's sense of narration. Orchestral and intricate, "Love Story" feels timeless.
