- It's hard to follow-up a year-defining release that almost single-handedly made Dirtybird cool again in the eyes of dance music snobs, but Nikki Nair came close on Shufflin'. The Atlanta breaks-and-bass wizard stripped things down as he moved from Low End Theory beat science to wispy dubstep. Now Nair kicks off 2022 by eschewing the minimalism while kicking off his own label, n goes to infinity. "2 Step" is a chimera of a track that starts in the middle of an acid flashback with a nightmare 303 sliding in and out of tune over distorted 160 BPM percussion. But just as quickly, Nair drops down to halftime. The effect is a bit like the ascent on an old rickety wooden rollercoaster. Just when you think the whole thing might collapse, Nair throws the brakes off and ends with a careening ascent into rave madness.
