  • Locked Groove has had a particularly industrious pandemic period. Since April 2020 he’s released five EPs, all comprising two or three tracks and all up to his usual high quality, from the dubby murk of Missing Link on Hotflush to the airy, proggy IDM of Nautiluss on his own Locked Groove Records. His new EP, C2FX, might just be the best of the bunch, namely due to the enveloping charms of track two, “Kyoto”. Mellow, flute-like keys provide a lush, pastel-toned prelude before the four-to-the-floor kick drum eventually joins the hi-hat, jolting the track into club mode. Locked Groove gradually introduces a series of buoyant synths and melodies, expanding and extending the dopamine hit. The title track is a more wistful affair, a D-bridge inspired slice of soulful, spacious drum & bass hitched to long, mournful pads. On remix duties, Eluize takes the track in a dancier direction with stuttering trancey synths, chunky drums and exotic chords. C2FX marks another impressive entry in the Locked Groove canon and, if the similar artwork on the last three Locked Groove releases is any indication, bodes well for the new LP that might eventuate soon.
