- Everything on Brooklyn producer tape_hiss's new EP feels shrouded in some beautiful mist, the aural equivalent of smearing vaseline on the lens to make everything look smoother. On the standout title track, a Balearic house jam, even the drums are carefully padded, while the pads sigh like angelic choirs and the pianos float at 35,000 feet with a bright, reassuring glow. (If you've ever heard Prefab Sprout's Steve McQueen, it kind of sounds like that.) The whole record is worth it for any fan of early '90s electronica, the kind of dance music that warms you like a cup of hot cocoa even while willing you to dance.
