In the world of modern minimal, Francesco del Garda is often regarded as the yin to Nicolas Lutz's yang. He has been responsible for infusing minimal with brightened bursts of progressive and trance, while Lutz keeps it dark and psychedelic with acid and electro influences. But del Garda's ongoing various artists series on his Timeless label complicates this balance, splitting the difference between night and day. The standout from the latest EP is a case in point. Christian AB's "Nevereverends" is light on its feet with some billowy pads and clipped vocal samples, but the squelches of acidic bass just beneath feel like the whole track might collapse at any second.
