- If you've been to a New York techno party in, say, the last four years, you might know what to expect of FadeFace: slamming techno with an edge. On "Artifacts," the title track from his new EP, you get the colossal kick drums and enveloping atmospheres, but you also get plenty of details and tricks. The way the kick drum filters out before shoving in at the beginning is simple but brilliant, while the melodies that whirr in the background are affecting if you pay attention and unobtrusive if you just want to bang your head to the drums. There's so much going on it feels like being underwater but hearing everything clearly.
