  • Seven and a half minutes of spine-chilling noise and glitch.

  • On UK label Phantom Limb's latest release, artists re-score a 1972 stop-motion work by a Japanese master puppeteer who tells the story of a demon-possessed mother hiding her identity from her kids. This theme of physical struggle is masterfully explored by Taiwan-born, Berlin-based producer Sabiwa on her hair-raising offering. Through a strange medley of sounds that include hissing, drone, clock bells, tangled bass and digital distortions, the artist invokes feelings of fear, sorrow and a sense of being trapped. Dramatic and alarming, her record is an undeniable horror narrative—a testament to her rich sound design and strategic field recordings.
