- "Between Rooms" refers to a dance music approach caught in the middle of the proverbial Room One—the big room—and Room Two, often the more experimental, sometimes chill place. The title track from Diessa's excellent new EP on Edited Arts pretty much nails this idea: it starts off with a slow broken beat pattern, before a breakdown relaunches it into a twitchy section that feels quicker, but really it's just a case of the jitters. All that is liberally sprinkled with ballroom ha stabs, which range from melted and pitched-down to rapid-fire bursts speeding the track along. It's just one instance of inventive rhythms on an EP full of them.
