Ike Release - Night Calling

  • Ike Velez has never made a bad record. Each release, from his earliest until last year's Personality Fragment LP, has shown a knack for approaching house and techno from genuinely inventive perspectives. His new EP launches a new imprint, Episodes Air, and it sounds casual and breezy, which only highlights Velez's gift for arrangement. "Night Calling" is satisfyingly chunky house with a twist: slippery, insistent synth stabs that sound ported over from one of those early, ultra-heavy Mills & Hood tracks, given new life as part of a topsy-turvy house tune—a classic Ike Release sleight of hand.
