- If DARKSIDE's first album was a '70s classic rock band through the lens of the 2010s, then "Liberty Bell" is when that band enters the slick, neon '80s. Over a looping slide guitar figure, Jaar's voice has a subtle filter like a smear of vaseline, and everything sounds more polished, shiny and mechanized. It's also catchier than almost anything Jaar and Harrington have done before—even the guitar solo is more immediate, all bent notes and fevered fingerpicking. I wasn't exactly coveting a DARKSIDE revival, but here the group burns with renewed purpose and confidence.
