Blanck Mass - Starstuff (Single Edit)

  • Blanck Mass goes kosmische, sort of.

  • I'd wager that Benjamin Power has been listening to a lot of Tangerine Dream. The arpeggio that launches "Starstuff"—an excerpt from new album In Ferneaux, which comprises two extended compositions—is unmistakably Froese-ian, with that distinct feeling of frigid winter air, heavy reverb and minor chord intrigue that defines Tangerine Dream. Before long, a kick drum shreds apart the delicate atmosphere, bringing things back to the usual febrile chaos of Blanck Mass. In Ferneaux is a meditation on the utility of pain, which isn't exactly a new subject for Power, though the execution points to something lighter and brighter—in relative terms, of course.
