Aquasky / Control Z & Far Too Loud - Direct Hit / Whole Lotta Hate

  • The latest offering from Aquasky's sister label to Passenger, 777 features two highly distinct tunes presenting something from both sides of the breakbeat spectrum. Aquasky step to the plate with a remake of a highly limited tune from 2004, which was only available as a limited edition sampler from Australia's Fuzzy Breaks label and the flip sees two new contenders delivering a much darker sound. Side A. Aquasky - Direct Hit (05 Alive Version) Dropping the "vs Masterblaster" from their name, Aquasky's Direct Hit gets reborn for 05 with a new twist. For those who haven't heard the original, the tune features a scratched "Direct Hit don't miss!" vocal sample with a funky and highly uplifting synth hook on top of a very energetic beat... and if that wasn't enough to lift you up, they drop a "Take "Em Higher!" vocal to raise hands in the air. No point in really fixing something that isn't broken but they've included new MC vocals to incite even more energy, big drum fills and a bigger, growlier bassline. Side AA. Control Z & Far Too Loud - Whole Lotta Hate On a much darker note, Whole Lotta Hate is described by Brent from Aquasky as the Led Zeppelin of breaks tunes - a pretty bold statement, but the similarities can be seen with the melancholy rock vocals and moody tear-out bassline. During the breakdown a haunting melody is introduced accompanied by horror movie stabs. For those who have heard tunes like Control Z's Badman will be right into this one.
