- For some, club music is borderline superfluous in a year when clubs are closed. Even those of us whose relationship with this music goes beyond partying might argue that po-faced tools can wait for brighter days. It's fitting, then, that Facta's self-described "ode to the dance floor" is some of his most playful music yet, and, in the case of "MPH," shamelessly heartwarming. It's exactly the kind of dance music we need to keep spirits high.
"Doves" is built around a bloated bassline and jerky FM synths. Its minimal four-on-the-floor drum pattern isn't what you'd usually associate with Facta, but it works well, recalling the kind of tripped-out gear a Perlon DJ might use to send heads spinning at 7AM. "MPH" is the pick of the two. It sounds like Facta is subconsciously reaching for the hallowed ground between Mika Vainio's Ø alias and Four Tet, and he makes a good stab at it. Whistles, pings and hard drive whirrs sit snug against the melodic backdrop.
