- The Brooklyn newcomer makes his Sorry Records debut with a punch.
- Like many of the New York producers piquing ears right now, Bay Area-born and New York-based Escaflowne keeps the dance floor in mind when he's producing music. His latest EP, The Stimulus Pack, screams peak-time with the soulfulness that stamps it as a Sorry Records release.
The record opens with a stomping house track that builds extraordinary momentum with a simple loop of a belting Loleatta Hollaway in "We're Getting Stronger." "Drifter" is video game techno that takes the signature steel-pan tinkling on "Tokyo Drift"–but here it's warped it into something that sounds like wind passing through a cave cluttered with bells. Shamelessly referencing "Let No Man Put Asunder," "Beybah" centers heaven-facing chord progressions and drifting pads. Though the former track has long been castaway as a sampling go-to in dance music, this rework and Huey Mnemonic's remix sound refreshingly good.
