- "Ghettotech meets UK rave" on Sherelle and Naina's new label.
- There's so much about the first release on Hooversound Recordings that just makes sense. Founded by two of London's most exciting DJs, Naina and Sherelle, and focusing on bass-heavy dance music of all stripes, the label's launch coincided with what has been a fertile period for the UK capital's clubbing scene. It kicks off with a transatlantic collaboration between Sinistarr and Hyroglifics, two underrated artists who perfectly encapsulate the fusion of footwork and jungle that Sherelle reps so well. And it's released on the 13th of March, 313, the area code to Sinistarr's native Detroit, as well as his birthday. He describes the sound of the EP as "ghettotech meets UK rave."
Sinistarr and Hyroglifics collaborate on "BS6" and "Turn Up," both of which are bursting with energy and personality. Each artist has a solo track on the release as well, named for their hometowns. In the case of Sinistarr, this jittery, dystopian track is simply called "Detroit," while Hyroglifics delivers a fast-paced slab of acid techno named "Turbo Island" after a community garden in Bristol. Scratcha DVA contributes a remix of the title track, a weighty gqom number where each element has space to breathe.
