Derek Carr - The Matter At Hand

  • Subtle deep house suitable for the dance floor and home.

  • The latest EP from Derek Carr, who's been releasing music since the early '00s, doesn't stray from his signature style of tasteful house and techno. The sounds on The Matter At Hand weave in and out of clarity, as if we're being looking through a kaleidoscope. The title track is pure deep house, bongos and all. "Vandalised" is even straighter, but its light, airy synths keep it psychedelic. "A Hundred Dreams" takes its name from the spoken vocal sample, which smacks of The Orb's "Little Fluffy Clouds." The Matter At Hand is an EP for the dance floor, perhaps during a warm-up set, but it would also suit dedicated bedroom listening.
