- Having released a string of records in the Romanian minimal tradition, PianoForest Records ventures elsewhere with an EP featuring newcomers Userunknwn and Soyro. Their joint track, "太陽," channels the melodic nous and melancholic mood of mid-'00s Berlin minimal, striking a curious balance between the era's emotionally charged sound and Romania's narcotic grooves. Take the arpeggiated, stuttering synth underpinning the track, or the drop just past the six-minute mark—both could have soundtracked the more wistful scenes of Berlin Calling had Paul Kalkbrenner shown a bit more restraint.
For minimal DJs, the solo track from Userunknwn is more conventional. Though it might be useful for DJ sets, it falls a bit flat. A timid three-note riff is introduced twice, suggesting an intensity shift that never comes. Love Songs For Dragons is all about the B-side, another track successfully bringing fresh air into the Romanian sound.
