  • In Butterfly Arcane, Nathan Micay takes us into a darker alley of the universe he built in his album Blue Spring. The first track, "I'm Your Huckleberry," begins as an optimistic march, with chirpy sounds flying around warm synth line, and an encouraging voice whispering "you’re doing great" throughout the track. "This'll Tell The Tale" takes a darker turn, its retro synths and vocoder samples resembling spacey Italo-disco—an unusual sound for Micay, but one fitting to his cyber-punk universe. With slow, dismal synths and rapidly unraveling arpeggios, "Did U Know I Cannot Die" conveys a cinematic gloom–indeed, weaving filmic narrative with electronic music has been central to Micay’s approach ever since Capsule's Pride, his homage to Akira. The final track, "The Party We Could Have", is a triumphant techno anthem from Blue Spring, which creates a narrative of victory, bouncing off the sense of despair in previous tracks.
