  • La Fe connects two generations of Vancouver musicians: Michael Red, who was once a key cog in the city's vibrant dubstep scene, and Daniel Rincon, who runs the label Isla and collaborates with producers like D. Tiffany. (He recently moved to Montreal.) On their debut EP's stellar lead track, "Ois!," they tap into something they're not known for: dembow. The swung rhythm is the bedrock for a track that feels like dancehall crossed with '00s-era minimal: half-lidded, hypnotic and loaded with sonic squiggles and sleepy melodies that hum in the background. Imagine Onur Özer on a trip to Jamaica. The two tracks on the B-side are vintage Michael Red—noodly underwater dub—touched by Rincon's penchant for microscopic details and intricate, druggy grooves. It's a wonderfully wonky look into the work of two Canadian producers whose contributions sometimes go ignored.
