Martyné ‎- Bodysee

  • New-school minimalism, Offenbach style.

  • The early releases from the Offenbach label Traffic presented a new-school minimalism that incorporated elements of garage, Detroit electro and breakbeat. Bodysee, the new EP from Traffic's Martyné, released by the Frankfurt record shop and label Gosu, sees the the German producer turn to electroclash and hip-hop-leaning electro. The A-side cuts employ the typical Traffic toolkit—classic drum hits arranged in spry rhythms, bright bleep sequences—while subtly integrating hints of styles the crew haven't yet worked with. The familiar drum machine samples on "Final Form" are arranged in a slightly stilted broken rhythm that recalls '80s electro. "Bodysee" gets a touch of electroclash or mid-'00s minimal sleaze from its tinny, cut-up hip-hop vocal and squelchy midrange bass. But where the A-side tries new tricks, the B-side delivers Traffic's classic bright-eyed, chugging dance floor fodder. "OFL" and "Weapons Online" boast spotless, spry four-on-the-floor percussion and glossy bleep-bloop melodies with a streak-free shine. Traffic acolytes won't be disappointed.
