Five Corners Quintet - Different Corners EP

  • Share
  • The Five Corners Quintet are a Helsinki based outfit who are described as old school in their renditions of bossa, latin and jazz. Here they get the remix treatment, the three-part EP currently getting exposure from the likes of Gilles Peterson. First up is Nicola Conte's bright-eyed take on Three Corners, a vibe and trombone lad number that's rhythmically tight but allows plenty of room for improvisation, tastefully done. Two versions of The Devil Kicks follow - the Sumo on Wheels mix a deep house effort from Tuomas Kallio of NuSpirit Helsinki. It's a classy number, the funky bass line given ample exposure and the whole thing kept moving and interesting. Drum and bass is the place for Dharmaone's remix, an agile lower register and lithe rhythm completing an excellent package. Something for everyone here!
