Deapmash - Dimension

  • Deapmash makes heavy-duty party music. The beats are broken, the sounds are clean and there's always a vocal hook around. In the vein of Powell and Clouds, Deapmash seems bent on giving serious techno a playful side—music to unfurrow the brows and tweak a few grins. That's what was on the producer's previous EP for Stale, Blackout, and now he tries it again on his second record for the label. Stale chief Kastil features on "Thread," but it's fairly tame compared to the rest of Dimension. Deapmash's jungle persuasions bolster the jingling "Compressed Quantum Vision," a hyperreal Raito collaboration with a nice dreamscape breakdown. The more you listen the more it breaks free of its '90s references and into a modern, experimental simulation. Sounding like Sawf at his most jacking, "Dimension" is an irresistible bundle of curbed breaks, burnished steel and the kind of repetition that bores deep into the subconscious and stays there. Vincenn does a driving "Redimension" of the title track, which takes the music back to a corroded, retro-industrial aesthetic.
