Circo Loco @ Neighourhood, London 23/5/04

  • What an amazing night! The Circo Loco crew flew in from Ibiza to hit current favourite West End club Neighbourhood and turned the heat up with their solid residents. We walked in at 5pm to Max Latino churning out sexy, groovy house that got down right dirty at some moments. Pity there wasn't much of a crowd to enjoy his set. But my mates visiting in from Singapore had a wonderful time and we were the only ones dancing on the floor. Jo Mills took over and shifted the pace a little by playing more upbeat tracks. The crowd was slowly trickling in. Jo kept her set tight, throwing in melodic-sounding tracks like Vampires' Live the Light. She played well, interchanging and mixing in different genres of tunes timely and consistently. She played current Stereo Production's hot anthem In Stereo before handing over the decks to Clive Henry of Peace Division. Clive played the usual sounds Peace Division is known for – percussive with some dark tribal-techy elements and pumping beats. But I was taken away and felt it was Fabrizio who stole the night. He came on and brought the club to another level. Dishing out tunes with pumping basslines and phat drum beats, he had us riveted on the dancefloor. Atmospheric sounds drift in here and there. With the signature Circo Loco clown icon staring down at us from the screen, seeing familiar clubbers who I'd met clubbing in DC10 the previous times I'd been there and having Charlie Chester himself around made me feel for a moment that I was actually there in Ibiza. And I'm now waiting for bated breath for next week when I'll really be in DC10 for its opening summer session. Fabrizio made the crowd went wild when he played Dr Kucho's Tanzania, we were screaming and smiling. What a fantastic track and played at the correct moment too. Sporting a black tee with New York printed across it, he obligingly told me the name of a track that caught my attention with its sultry female vocals – The Flash Brothers' Deep Love. Rocky of X-press 2 then took over from where Fabrizio left off and although it was almost midnight, the clubbers were still up for it. The Circo Loco team had chosen the perfect location for the party. Neighbourhood's got a kick-ass sound system and a fun mixed crowd – friendly and warm. Great vibes and ambience all around, only marred by stuffiness and heat – management will have to look into it especially when summer comes in full force. There were times when we felt suffocated. But we enjoyed the night tremendously and I am looking forward to next Monday!
