DJ Mole vs DJ Crow - Chuggernaut/Jerk

  • The latest offering from Boombox Records comes from two established Boombox artists - Mole and Crow and sounding more like a battle between forest animals or comic book superheroes. The split 12" delivers a chunky breakbeater from Mole while Crow leans towards progressive on the flip. Side A. DJ Mole - Chuggernaut Chuggernaut is a tough piece of 4 to the floor house breaks crossover. Driving, relentless beats and a rumbling bassline can be heard throughout the introduction while a catchy hook sounding like an 80's funk style bass lick gives the introduction its flavour. After a quick breakdown, repetitive vocal samples and a hypnotic bassline flow right through the rest of the tune while Mole breaks up the beats with the occasional drum break, percussive elements and techy stabs. Side AA. DJ Crow - Jerk Jerk on the flip side is a deeper progressive affair, with plenty of crossover potential. Compared to Chuggernaut, Jerk has lighter beats, a percussive hook, a 303 acid-like bassline and bouncy bass stabs giving it a real bouncy and somewhat rave like appeal. Buildups and breakdowns galore in this track. DJ's the likes of Anthony Pappa, James Zabeila, Tayo and Radio 1's Annie Nightingale are all over this 12" and it's easy to hear the crossover potential eminating from the speakers. Personally I'm more for Chuggernaut, but progressive DJ's would be into Jerk.
