- Written somewhere between Berlin and Southern Italy, between serene azure skies and perpetual clouds, Aubrey's first EP for Out-er taps into a blend of balmy house and tougher techno. Aqua Warrior's titular track is primed and buoyant, if somewhat distracted. Every now and then Aubrey defects for a mini reverie that's worlds apart from the clubby task at hand.
"Kriptic Message" is more focused, using what sounds like a ship's bell to carry the nautical theme into a moodier dub setting. A Detroit-sourced tension percolates through "Turned Away," before "Spinning Sideways" wraps things up with seven minutes of shimmering haze. That last one is imbued with the motions of the Mediterranean. It rolls on and on in a lovely saline wash, with the gentle tussle of something grainy underneath.
