Stormtrooper - Serious Sounddrop / The Calling

  • Following Dolphin's gabber sing-a-long Raiders Cap, PRSPCT's hard-as-nails sub-label, PRSPCT XTRM, presents two boisterous, jungle-infused stompers from Bavarian veteran Stormtrooper. Unlike the sort of demonic onslaughts Peter Nitschke has been throwing down over the last decade on imprints like Al Twisted's Motormouth Recordz, Frenchcore bastion Absurd Audio and Lenny Dee's revered hardcore powerhouse, Industrial Strength Records, his debut for Rotterdam's much loved label/radio show/party crew is less serious and a load more fun. Which is fundamentally what PRSPCT is all about. "Serious Sounddrop" is that perfect rough-and-tumble between dub soundboy rollers and something more screw-faced. There's the melodramatic breakdowns, slamming bass drops and enough tongue-in-cheek sentiment to keep you moshing and grinning like a crazy person. "The Calling," then, is a cheeky riff on—and mashup of—Aphrodite's 1994 classic "Calling The People" (released as A-Zone). It's a ballsy chop-and-change between jittery, accelerated jungle and even speedier technoid breaks, one that's squarely got dance floor tear-outs in mind.
