Macaluso – Where We Live

  • For fans of Tribal House, this release by Macaluso may appeal to you. Where We Live is a classic case of tribal house and it comes from New Jersey based Record label, En-Soul Records. On the a-side is Macaluso’s ‘In The Ground’ Mix. It’s tough and dirty, with big chunky tribal drums giving this track a good club feel. Steve Lawler material this is with solid tribal beats as well as a dark vocal line. The track remains pretty similar throughout with no real twists and turns which is quite disappointing. On the flip is the Evolved Remix and I must say that this is the better release of the two. A little more house based then the a-side, this remix comes equipped with a pretty solid ‘expanding’ baseline, and the vocal gets a bigger touch up in this remix, cut and pasted in parts throughout the production. Smooth subtle synths make appearances late in the track, but all in all it again lacks a certain cutting edge. Not a bad release but not a release to get too fussed over. It’s quite dark and minimal for most parts, and for those that like their beats dark and chunky, then this might be just for you.
