Adrian Niculae is Priku, an [a:rpia:r]-affiliated Romanian who also runs his own label, Motif. The I/0 EP is Motif's fourth release, and the first time anyone has joined Niculae on the label. Whether or not he and Ionuț Arapu intentionally released their first collaborative 12-inch in the summertime, it nonetheless goes down well in warm weather. As Super Moon, the producers offer up three extended, minimalist house workouts begging to be rinsed outdoors.
Romanian house often starts with the bassline, and the I/0 EP has three doozies. Compared to most house records these days, its low-ends are complex and dynamic, comprising short and chunky stabs that seem to shift every few bars. Techy, driving and versatile, standout "Untitled #2" is the most tool-like. It's capped off with airy pads and a bright batch of obscure samples, making it extremely summer-friendly. Those after something more percussive can take their pick from "Untitled #1" or "Untitled #3." Both are a little more moody than "#2," but provide some diversity to another solid Motif release.
