Shmuel Flash – Saturn / The Other Side of Me

  • Out next on the very solid Nascent label comes a production from one of the finest producers in progressive, Shmuel Flash. It is a release that follows the quality work of Smight with ‘Course of Action’, and the label continues its merry ways with two solid tracks here from the Israeli maestro. Firstly on the a-side is Saturn. The track builds smoothly with solid baseline trembles that give the track its driving force for the most part. The first breakdown is eerie as it slowly builds with minimal sounds, slowly leading in the base sounds that unite devilishly with the drums. The next breakdown is even better with rock style synths meeting a drum roll in peak time style. Quality, and a bit of an unseen side of Shmuel Flash. The flipside however is back to Shmuel at his uplifting and melodic best. The Other Side of Me you may have heard got a bit of airplay from Sasha in 2003, and there is a good reason why. A very smooth production in most parts, the track features a smooth rolling baseline and well produced and arranged string patterns in the last breakdown in particular. You may say it’s in similar vein to his classic production, ‘Chilling Moments’, in that it is very emotionally constructed. A lovely release from Shmuel Flash, and long overdue at that. It seems as if the Israeli, and indeed Nascent Recordings, cannot do much wrong at the moment.
