Future Retro – Deeper Low / Geen Oorlog

  • The third release on this impressive label out of Belgium, which has already seen support by the likes of Digweed and Howells, comes from the production woks of producer Future Retro. There’s a dark atmospheric cut on the a-side while the b-side gets a little techier. Some smooth subtle drums commence the production Deeper Low. It is not too long though before the kick hits the track setting the track off to a minimal journey of smooth effects and arpeggiated synth ripples. No real twists and turns as this track keeps a straight course till the end, constantly maintaining a solid edge. Geen Oorlog on the flip is a lot quirkier and more leftfield then most tracks you will hear. The beats are not quite straightforward, as is the stabbing base, but the track is very interesting from start to finish. Vocal samples help the unique nature of this track, which really peaks towards the end as many of the elements meet in style. This is quite an interesting release, and I fear a release that a few might not just get the hang of. It is good to know though that music is thriving, and the envelope is being pushed just a little further in countries like Belgium.
