hopelessly sublime melodies of Todd Sargent’s remix of Medway’s Trauma.
Sargent’s re-construction undulates in all the right positions. Subtly and methodically creeping its way towards the main break, a large crevasse filled with bouncy breakbeats, swirling dark synths and a repeating vocal. Pushing forward the composition begins to spill over, assimilating previous noises into a perfect synthetic soup and finally climaxing, in what seems like silence before thrusting ahead once again.
What truly makes Sargent’s mix stand out is not just lush sounds and well constructed technical attributes, but its acute versatility. This is a record that can fill any spot in a long night of music… not just fill like any record can, but gratify. Todd Sargent may not have planned or even intended for his remix to become so adaptable/ flexible as a Dj tool; nonetheless, it has happened and happened for the better.
