Dan Efex - The Prayer/Cyclones

  • St. Louis based label Nepol Records is at it again, this time showcasing a pair of original tracks by Chicago native Dan Efex. Dan has long established himself in the DJ scene as both a club and rave stronghold – in the studio he has had various releases throughout the year, thus creating a name for himself as a producer as well. His first release for Nepol (and the record label’s fourth) is quite similar to his style behind the decks – relentless, punishing, yet never leaving behind the groove. Dan’s productions are most definitely NOT for the faint of heart, with the slower of the two tracks coming in at 137 beats per minute. Regardless, it’s nice to see a label experimenting with different sounds as each new record hits the shelves. “The Prayer” storms in with a deep bass line settled over techy undertones. A female voice chants in and out throughout the track – clearly intended for a peak time dance floor crowd. The B-side “Cyclones” offers another chunk of peak time action, coming in at around 140 beats per minute. The tune has shades of old school trance, yet the production quality is undeniably up to the moment. Anyone familiar with the Midwest rave scene in the States knows Dan Efex – and if you’re a fan of the man’s DJ style, you’ll definitely love this record. Nepol turns it up a notch with their latest release – “The Prayer/Cyclones”…coming soon to a record store near you… For more information go to www.nepolrecords.com
