- It's odd that Duke Dumont should now sit comfortably in the same bracket as Disclosure: both are chart-bothering producers of lush house music. When "Need U (100%)" reached the UK chart's top spot in April, it was easy to forget that this was a DJ who'd featured Bodycode and Saturn V on his Fabriclive mix and produced a pupil-dilating Mystery Jets remix. He also has freaky club monster "Lean & Bounce" in his back catalogue. (You're not likely to hear that on an Ayia Napa terrace anytime soon.)
And so we have the tricky follow-up. Does Dumont alienate his new fanbase by heading back towards Turbo territory or risk fuelling the haters with more accessible sounds? Sensibly he opts for the middle ground, still going with a vocal (from serial collaborator MNEK) that will have the recent converts singing along, but dialling back on the white noise sweeps for a bass-led groover that recalls Robert Owens disco soul. Dumont continues to move freely, and "Hold On" can be marked as a success.
