  • Having ramped up the release schedule of late, New Kanada boss Adam Marshall now unveils his new collaborative project with fellow Canadian Christian Andersen, AKA XI. Despite both coming out of Toronto's club scene, the pair never crossed paths in their hometown: it was only after meeting in Berlin last year that their plan to collaborate was hatched. So what's the aim of this meeting of minds? Well, to quote the release notes, it's about "a new chapter in bass music." A somewhat bold, probably flippant statement, but in fairness, this double EP certainly stands out among the current glut of bass/house crossovers. "TheSust" builds quickly through pressing house chords and steppy flourishes—a direct and promising early statement. "No Save" is less vigorous, concentrating instead on a heavily textured aesthetic. The muscular "Cathode Bias" and key-heavy "Ques" are equally strong, but it's perhaps the closing soundscape, "On Board," that joins the opener as the package's other exceptional moment.
