Main Element - Generation/Narcotic

  • Main Elements "Hedfuk" of last year was a devastating piece of music. When it appeared on Nick Warrens Global Underground mix from Amsterdam it proved to be a rare beast, a transsition record, that had the depth and drive of the funk fuelled percussive house sound and the subtle, tidal melodies that induced the kind of emotions trance producers could only long to reproduce. "Generation", while not as ground breaking or heartstopping as "Hedfuk", is a very powerful record. It starts with sinister swirls of synth and muffled bass that storm over a rolling, funky bass line until the track breaks into looped tech percussion. Halfway through when it threatens to crush under its own darkness, the melody gets unleashed and it shoots toward the heavens. A brilliant modern trance track that mehes together the best of funky progressive, locked-groove tech and the age old power of melody.
