  • Nitzer Ebb frontman Douglas McCarthy has left the band's European tour because of health concerns. "After years of alcohol abuse, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver," McCarthy said in a statement via Instagram last Friday, March 22nd. "For more than two years I haven't been drinking, but recovery is a long process that can at times be extremely hard to predict." In May, the British EBM band is scheduled to perform at London club fabric and German goth festival Wave Gotik Treffen. "I won't be performing any live shows as Nitzer Ebb, Fixmer/McCarthy or any other vehicle, until I can do so safely and stress free for myself and the amazing people I have around me who continue to stand by my side in full support of getting me better," McCarthy added. McCarthy also experienced health-related complications before a Florida concert in 2021, when cofounder Vaughn "Bon" Harris had to step in to perform lead vocals. "It's been very painful to see a loved one and lifelong creative partner suffer the process of alcoholism and the devastating physical and mental effects it leaves in its wake," Harris added. He said the band will "continue to stand by Douglas [and] do everything we can to have him back with us healthy and recovered." Formed in Chelmsford, Essex, in 1982, Nitzer Ebb was originally called La Comédie De La Mort. The third cofounder, and current member, is drummer David Gooday.
