A global network of clubs, promoters and festivals have launched a new initiative promoting fair wages through revenue-sharing.
Launched today, March 12th, Support The Sound is aiming to build a new booking approach that promotes a sustainable future for electronic music. It plans to do so by using Aslice, a platform that aims to lessen the wage gap between DJs and producers through tracklist reporting.
Support The Sound was spearheaded by two clubs: New York's BASEMENT and Tbilisi's Bassiani. Other founding members include Amsterdam festival Dekmantel, Brussels club Fuse, Amsterdam promoter Vault Sessions and New York's Wire Festival.
All members of the initiative have agreed to promote Aslice's benefits to all booking agents and DJs, and encourage resident DJs to submit their playlists. By 2025, all DJs will be asked to share revenue with the producers they include in their sets.
"Without producers, our dance floors would be silent," a founding statement said. "We've witnessed significant changes in our industry, where the role of music producers has been marginalised and undervalued. Without their fair compensation, the vitality and sustainability of our entire industry is at risk."
