  • Berlin-based firm Body Synths is releasing a drum machine. Metal Fetishist is a monophonic digital synth that acts and sounds like an analogue instrument. It uses one oscillator and a white noise source to create a range of harsh, percussive sounds. An onboard bit crusher and overdrive can be used to add distortion and crunch. The synth comes with a low-pass / high-pass filter, a Eurorack-compatible patch bay with control-voltage interface and two envelopes for shaping the pitch or filter frequency. Sounds can be played manually using a trigger button or controlled with an inbuilt sequencer, which can be set to 2, 4, 8, 10, 16 or 32 steps. Separate knobs introduce randomness to the sounds, effecting filter cutoff, oscillator pitch and a crossfader that moves between the oscillator's signal and white noise. Videos and images of the instrument have been shown previously on Body Synths' social media and website. The company has now announced that it will go on sale in the coming months, though the price is still TBD. Watch a video of Metal Fetishist.
