  • A new club has opened in Kansas City, Missouri. Launched in mid-January, In The Lowest Ferns sits in the historic annex of the Crane building in the West Bottoms neighbourhood. Running every Friday and Saturday from 7 PM through 1:30 AM, the 100-capacity space features a Danley Sound Labs system, bespoke DJ booth and dance floor surrounded by an industrial garden interior and vintage lounge seating. "In The Lowest Ferns is our first permanent space that showcases our full scope of services from initial concept design, to interior design, styling, custom build outs and branding," cofounder Jason Eubanks told Resident Advisor. True to Kansas City's deep musical roots, the programming will focus on local and international talent, from live jazz musicians to underground electronic artists. NOMADA, the local arts and entertainment organisation behind In The Lowest Ferns, also intends to host non-club events, including sound baths, ecstatic dance, open panels, dinner parties and private functions. "We wanted to create a living, breathing space that people could come home to," another cofounder, Austin Goldberg, told RA. "A beacon in the city where like-minded individuals and artists could gather together and exchange ideas and leave feeling a charge." Previously the NOMADA team—which also includes Dante Walton—ran a party series called BARRACA 49, a monthly hi-fi sound camp housed inside a '70s military tent in the Crossroads District. They also collaborated with A$AP Rocky on his "RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n)" music video, filmed in Kansas City this past summer.
