  • Prolific house vocalist Michael Watford has died. The news was confirmed on Facebook yesterday, January 28th, by Watford's son Solomon. "On Friday, January 26th, my father, Michael Watford, passed away," the post read. "We want to thank everyone, including those from the house music community, who have contacted me and my family during this difficult time." Born in Virginia, Watford joined gospel group Discipline Of Truth aged just five, before moving to New Jersey a few years later. From there, he collaborated with house collective Smack Music, and his voice became synonymous with the garage house sound emerging from New Jersey and New York in the early '90s. Watford went on to record with greats like Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez, Kerri Chandler and Robert Owens. His biggest hit was 1994's "So Into You," which topped the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in the US. His final release was 2018's Hey Everybody, a collaborative single with Italian artist Stefano Sorge. Listen to "So Into You (Classic Club Mix)," and read some tributes.
